Mr. Godfrey Mogorosi, Manager of Kroonpark, is a Kroonstad man -born and bred.Godfrey is filled with inspiration and shares in the vision that Ignite and Revive’s hasof “Making Kroonstad Great again” and bringing “feet” back to Kroonstad.
With human-rights-related service delivery ranking highest on their list of priorities, the Moqhaka Municipal budget caters for the town’s water, electricity, sewage, and refuse removal, rather than their recreational needs. Kroonpark’s budget standsaside again – this time because the municipality must provide for the needs of the fire brigade, ambulance services, roads, and traffic issues, and when it gets to Kroonpark, more than half of its budget goes toward salaries!
This has been the status quo for many a bleak year until one business- and result-oriented Director came along, insisting on change and results, no matter how small.
Inspired, Mr. Mogorosi started with small, but hugely significant steps in the reshaping of Kroonpark. His mission? To do HIS part. His wish is for Kroonpark to be the jewel of Kroonstad; a magnet that will draw visitors from afar, but also a place of safe recreation for the whole family.
He sees, in his mind’s eye, a waterpark with slides, a tidal wave pool, a ‘lazy river’,and most definitely a river boat. He also sees an indoor putt-putt and tenpin bowling course, a domed amphitheatre for events, a terraced tea garden overlooking the waterpark, and modernised conference facilities.
What has been done so far, is that worn thatch has been replaced with sturdy roofs. 41 of the 49 chalets have been refurbished and revamped – new microwaves, refrigerators, stoves, television sets, and cupboards have been acquired. Bathrooms and floors are being retiled, and excellent quality beds and bedding have been procured – with tables and chairs next on the list. The upcoming Bokkie week will certainly aid in acquiring funds for rounding off the last touches.
What is really heartening is that steady progress is being made, and that pride has been restored. All of this is the result of one person with a business-like vision, and the courage of the man at the helm, who wishes to just “do his part” to develop “his” town – because, in his words: “I am from Kroonstad” and “I do it for Kroonstad.”
